Pleasant\, DC. \nAbout the event: \n\n\nStep into the charm of Regency times and dance the night away under the stars at this unforgettable garden ball. \n\n\n\n\nDearest Reader\,\nWe’re delighted to invite you to an evening gathering as the sun dips low and the garden comes alive in twilight’s glow. \nCome dressed in your Regency-inspired finest (interpret freely) and step into a playful\, elegant world for the night\, where admiration may be earned\, fans and flirtatious glances speak a quiet language\, and small intrigues quietly unfold. \nWe will offer simple\, guided dances inspired by Regency and Irish céilí traditions\, no experience needed\, with dance cards to encourage chance encounters and perhaps a few new acquaintances. Even the most hesitant may discover a surprising ease once the music begins. \nYou’ll also have space to wander the garden\, enjoy refreshments\, and take part in as much or as little of the whimsy as you like. A stroll beneath the evening sky may lead to blooms tucked into lapels or hair\, bestowed by friend or admirer. \nAnd for those with particular tastes\, a clever attendant stands ready with a small selection of libations\, thoughtfully prepared and finished with a flourish to suit the occasion. \nAs the evening deepens\, formality may soften\, giving way to music\, mingling\, a freer sort of revelry\, and maybe even a touch of mischief!

DESCRIPTION:Deepen your musicality and make some noise! This sean nós dance class introduces this musical and expressive dance style from Ireland. Sean nós\, meaning “old style” in Irish\, originates from the Connemara region of Ireland and is characterized by its improvisational nature and close connection to the music. In this class\, students will learn: \n\nThe fundamental techniques of sean nós\, including close-to-the-floor stepping and relaxed upper body\nBasic improvisation skills to develop one’s own style and percussive voice\nApproaches to developing a playful and creative conversation with the music\, musicians\, and other dancers through this form\n\nThe class is geared toward beginner and advanced beginner dancers (ages 13+)\, but all levels are welcome. Leather-soled (non-stick) shoes are recommended; taps or Irish dance hard shoes are also acceptable. If you are not sure if this class is right for you\, please talk to Kate. \nSemester registration is encouraged\, but drop-ins are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Deepen your Irish dance technique and rhythm! These Irish step dance classes draw from various Irish step dance styles\, especially festival style technique from the north of Ireland\, with an emphasis on strength\, control\, musicality\, and stage presence. In a fun and non-competitive environment\, you will learn new steps and choreographies that will challenge and inspire your dancing.\n\n\nThe goal of the class series is to promote a holistic understanding of Irish dance\, in all its styles\, and develop strong performers\, well-informed traditional dancers\, and inspired creators. \nThe class is geared toward experienced Irish dancers (ages 13+) and includes both soft shoe and hard shoe dancing. New choreography will be introduced every 2-3 weeks. If you are not sure if this level is right for you\, please talk to Kate. \nThe program is especially designed for dancers who may no longer be interested in competing\, but still want to find joy in dancing and performing. Students will have opportunities to perform with Kate Spanos Irish Dance throughout the year. \nSemester registration is encouraged\, but drop-ins are welcome.
