Regency Garden Ball (céilí)
Kate Spanos will call Irish céilí dances at “Diamond of the Season: A Regency Garden Ball” on Saturday, May 16, at the Scooby Doo Mansion in Mt. Pleasant, DC.
About the event:
Step into the charm of Regency times and dance the night away under the stars at this unforgettable garden ball.
Dearest Reader,
We’re delighted to invite you to an evening gathering as the sun dips low and the garden comes alive in twilight’s glow.
Come dressed in your Regency-inspired finest (interpret freely) and step into a playful, elegant world for the night, where admiration may be earned, fans and flirtatious glances speak a quiet language, and small intrigues quietly unfold.
We will offer simple, guided dances inspired by Regency and Irish céilí traditions, no experience needed, with dance cards to encourage chance encounters and perhaps a few new acquaintances. Even the most hesitant may discover a surprising ease once the music begins.
You’ll also have space to wander the garden, enjoy refreshments, and take part in as much or as little of the whimsy as you like. A stroll beneath the evening sky may lead to blooms tucked into lapels or hair, bestowed by friend or admirer.
And for those with particular tastes, a clever attendant stands ready with a small selection of libations, thoughtfully prepared and finished with a flourish to suit the occasion.
As the evening deepens, formality may soften, giving way to music, mingling, a freer sort of revelry, and maybe even a touch of mischief!
