We were happy to be back at the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival in St. Leonard again this year! In 2023, I performed solo and promised myself would keep building my group and bringing more people. This year, we had eight performers—enough to do the Ballyvourney Jig Set!
We had a great mix of Irish dance styles, as usual. We had sean nós, festival style, country set dancing, old style step dancing, modern step dancing, etc. (Stay tuned for a blog post about what all these styles mean. Not everyone will agree on their definitions, but I will lay out how I think about it—and when I think definitions fail us!)
The audience this year was fantastic. We had lots of people cheering us on! Thanks to Joanie Feeney and the festival organizers for having us again. We are looking forward to next year!
